If you have decided to upgrade and invest in a new geyser you will want to make an informed purchasing decision so that you know that the one you choose will tick all of the right boxes for you.

Searching for the best geysers can be a daunting prospect and that’s why it helps to know about some of the main pros and cons of each type of geyser.

There is a lot more about geysers than simply heating up your water. Here is a guide to the different types available.

Electric

The most common type of geyser is powered by electricity. Electric geysers tend to heat your water to a higher temperature than other types of geysers and that is one of the main reasons why they are so popular.

An electric geyser is probably one of the more cost-effective options available and they are usually easy to install. However, you need to be mindful that the operating costs of an electric geyser can be quite expensive. That is one reason why you need to choose a model that is the right size and performance level for your needs so that you are as economic as possible with running costs.

Gas

Next on the list is a gas geyser. You will need an LPG connection for this type of geyser and operating costs are relatively low, compared to electric models.

However, they represent more of a safety risk and need to be properly ventilated. This is a primary reason why homeowners are looking at alternatives when upgrading their geyser.

Solar

We all need to consider environmentally-friendly options where possible and that is why a solar geyser is worth looking at.

A solar geyser is capable of heating your water in a matter of minutes and you won’t have the same worries about electricity costs with this option. Installation is usually more challenging and expensive and poor weather could impact performance.

Instant

Another option to consider would be a geyser that does not hold water but heats up what you need on an instantaneous basis.

An instant geyser would be a great option for a small household that doesn’t have a great demand for hot water but this type of geyser might not be suitable if you think you will need a greater capacity than three liters of water.

Storage geyser

As the name implies, a storage geyser comes with a metallic tank that offers a useful storage capacity of hot water that will be able to provide a family home with the hot water it needs on a daily basis.

This type of geyser is durable and offers good longevity but you should be aware that operating costs might be more expensive than other options.

Tank geyser

You might see a tank geyser being offered as one of your options. This is the same as a storage geyser and can be powered by electric, gas, or solar.

Tankless geyser

You might also see a model described as tankless. This description covers models that deliver instant hot water and will not offer any sort of storage capacity.

Know that you know a bit more about the various types and descriptions of geysers you should be able to make a more informed decision about which type and model will prove to be the best option for your needs.
